Zi Wei Dou Shu 紫微斗数

Zi Wei Dou Shu is a very interesting kind of astrology system. “Zi Wei” literally translates as Purple Star also known as the Purple Star in the West and “Dou Shu” means Calculation. The Stars are not the actual celestial bodies in the Universe. They are merely mathematical symbols bearing different properties.

In Zi Wei Dou Shu, we use stars in different areas of life to do the reading. A star is considered a special form of energy. Each star is a "living" energy that has personality to influence the mind and action of that person. Each star can bring events to him / her over time.
The findings, interestingly, match those of the Eight Characters (Ba Zi) / Four Pillars of Destiny although the method and the basis are entirely different.
Zi Wei Dou Shu is based on the calculation of a person's Year, Month, Date and Time of Birth to allocate the Stars into 12 different ‘Palaces'. This formed the person's 'Birth Chart'. The Birth Chart is divided into 12 Palaces named after the 12 Earthly Branches. Each Palace represents the 12 aspects or parts of our life namely Life (You), Siblings, Spouse, Children, Wealth, Health, Travel, Friends, Career, Properties, Happiness and Parents. Each of these Palaces is governed, affected and influenced by the characteristics and combination of the major or minor Stars. The stars in the respective Palace affect that aspect of your life. By reading the Stars, one can tell the Destiny of a person.

As such, the analysis is able to offer guidance to people on the future.

Example:

The “Tian Fu” star in the Wealth Palace would imply a steady cash flow with potential to accumulate wealth. This ability however can be negated by the presence of 'bad' stars or enhanced by the presence of 'good' ones in the surrounding Palaces or / and the Palace directly opposite it.
A Typical Zi Wei Dou Shu Chart

The palaces rotate around the chart. A person has a 10 year luck chart and an annual luck chart. A person's first 10 year luck chart is the same as the original natal chart. The second 10 year luck chart has the Life Palace either occupying the Parents Palace or Siblings Palace depending upon whether being a male or a female. The other palaces move one place following the Life Palace. This rotation in the chart causes our luck to change.
